Commercial movers in Olympia, WA, with a lift gate for heavy equipment.

Caravan Moving LLC handles commercial and office moves for businesses in Olympia, Thurston County and the South Sound. Choosing commercial movers comes down to the truck, the permits, the estimate and the crew, and all four are set out below. Desks, filing cabinets, break-room appliances, gym equipment and pallets go on a 24-foot box truck with a hydraulic lift gate, and every job starts with a free written estimate.

Before you sign with anyone

How to choose commercial movers in Olympia.

Put the same four questions to any office moving company you are considering. Our answers are below.

The truck

One 24-foot box truck with a hydraulic lift gate. A break-room fridge, a treadmill or a loaded pallet rides up level rather than being pushed up a ramp, which is easier on the equipment and on the people carrying it.

The permits

Caravan Moving LLC holds two Washington UTC permits: Household Goods Permit THG072095 for residential work, and Motor Freight Permit CC071873, our permanent freight authority. Washington defines household goods as property used, or to be used, in a residence and moved between residences or between a residence and storage (WAC 480-15-020), so office furniture and business equipment moving between commercial sites sit outside that definition. Every number we hold is listed on our About page.

The estimate

The estimate is free and in writing, and you have it before any work starts. We walk the space first, because a figure given without seeing the stairs and the loading door cannot be relied on.

The crew

Two to four people, depending on the job. Whoever loads your desks unloads them at the new space. With no warehouse in the middle, nothing changes trucks on the way.

Olympia and the South Sound

What we move for Olympia businesses

Small offices in downtown Olympia and on the Westside, businesses in Lacey and Tumwater, and companies moving up I-5 to Tacoma, about 30 miles north, or on to Seattle. The truck works all of it from our base in Rochester, about 20 miles south of Olympia.

Downtown addresses take the most planning, because an office move happens on a working weekday and the meters there are monitored Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The City of Olympia issues meter hood permits for vehicles providing services at a business, and the application has to go in at least two business days ahead, so send us the address as soon as you have a date.

Stock and packaged supplies on pallets can travel too, and the lift gate lands them at a door where there is no dock and no forklift. There is more on freight and pallet delivery.

  • Desks, chairs, filing cabinets and shelving
  • Boxed files and supplies
  • Treadmills, racks, benches and other gym equipment
  • Break-room fridges and other commercial appliances
  • Palletised stock and packaged supplies
  • Files and fragile items packed by our crew in banker's boxes and bubble wrap, through packing services

What to line up before moving day

A few jobs sit outside what a moving crew does. Sort them out before the truck arrives so nobody is standing around waiting on them.

Computers and phone systems. Your IT people disconnect and reconnect them, and we move the hardware.

Appliance hookups. We do not disconnect or install anything that is plumbed or wired in.

Bolted-down equipment. Gym machines and shelving fixed to a floor or a wall need unbolting before we arrive.

Fuel, propane and paint. Those stay off the truck, along with the rest of what we cannot take, listed on our services page.

From the first call to the last desk

How a business move runs.

  1. You call, the owner answers

Tell us what is moving, both addresses, and the date you are working toward.

  2. We look at the space

In person, or by video for a small office. We note the stairs, the elevator, the loading access and where a 24-foot truck can stand at each end, and if the job needs more than we can run in sensible trips you will hear that then.

  3. Free written estimate

In writing, and yours before the crew lifts anything. If the scope grows on the day, say a storage room nobody mentioned, we write a supplemental estimate and you sign it before we carry on.

  4. Moving day

Blankets, straps and dollies come with the truck, and the heavy pieces go on the lift gate at both ends. Before we close out, you walk the empty office and the truck with us.

Business move questions

What office managers ask before they book.

How much do commercial movers cost in Olympia?

It depends on how much furniture and equipment there is and how much is packed before we arrive, plus the access at both ends. That is why the number comes after we have seen the space, in a free written estimate that reaches you before the crew starts.

Can you move our office after hours or on a weekend?

It depends on what the calendar holds that week, because we run one truck and one crew. Ask on the first call and you will get a straight answer: yes and a time, or no and the earliest slot we can actually do.

How far ahead should we book an office move?

Usually the same week, sooner in slower months. If a lease end or a landlord has fixed your date, call as soon as you have it.

Can you move equipment for a gym or fitness studio?

Yes. Treadmills, racks and benches go up on the lift gate, and machines bolted to a floor or a wall need unbolting before we arrive. Send the makes and models, or the weights, of the heaviest machines so the walkthrough can plan the carry at both ends.

Can you deliver pallets to our business?

Yes, under Motor Freight Permit CC071873. One pallet going to a small commercial address with no dock and no forklift is the job larger LTL carriers dislike. The pallet comes down level on the lift gate and lands at the door. There is more on freight and pallet delivery.

What happens to office furniture we are not taking?

Our junk removal service can clear it, with the price agreed before anything is loaded. Donation and recycling are sorted first, and disposal is charged at cost with the ticket attached to the invoice. If the carpets need cleaning once the space is empty, King Carpet Cleaning handles that as a separate company that quotes and invoices on its own.
