Gun safe movers and appliance movers in Olympia, WA, with a hydraulic lift gate.
Caravan Moving LLC moves gun safes, refrigerators, washers, dryers, freezers, treadmills and gym equipment across Olympia, Thurston County and the South Sound from our base in Rochester. The hydraulic lift gate on our 24-foot truck raises each one level from the ground to the truck floor. Tell us the make and model (or the weight) and the stairs at both ends, and the estimate comes back free and in writing. Heavy duty moving blankets and straps come with the truck, and the lift gate replaces stair climbing wherever the path allows.
Before you call
Four details that shape a gun safe or appliance estimate.
A safe or freezer estimate depends on the item and the route, so have these ready when you call.
Make, model or weight
The make and model of the safe or appliance, or its weight if you know it. The purchase paperwork or a label on the item usually has it.
The path out
Every step between where it stands and the truck: the number of stairs, landings, tight turns, narrow doorways, a slope or a gravel drive. A short video of the route helps.
The path in
The same at the other end, plus exactly where it is going: the basement, the garage, the upstairs laundry.
What is inside
Take the ammunition, cash, jewellery and important papers out of a safe before moving day. Ammunition is on our list of hazardous material we cannot carry, and valuables always travel with you. Empty refrigerators and freezers too, and mention anything else that is inside when you call.
Moving a gun safe or appliance on a lift gate
On a ramp truck, a gun safe or chest freezer gets pushed up an incline with someone standing below it. Our hydraulic lift gate raises it level from the ground to the truck floor and lowers it the same way at the other end.
On the truck, anything with a finish is pad-wrapped and everything is strapped so it can't shift on the road. Blankets, straps and dollies come with the truck and never show up as a surprise line item.
We move one heavy item on its own, or the safe and the washer as part of a whole-house move. If the rest of the house is coming too, see our Olympia movers page.

From first call to the item in place
How a gun safe or appliance move works.
You call with the details
Make and model or weight, where it is now, where it is going, and the stairs at both ends. The owner answers the phone.
We look at it
State law requires a visual inspection before we quote. For a smaller job like one safe or one appliance, that can be done by video.
Free written estimate
In writing, before any work starts, based on the item, the stairs and the route. Valuation options on the bill of lading are explained before you sign, and you choose one. If the job grows past the estimate, we stop and write a supplemental estimate for you to sign first.
Moving day
The item goes up on the lift gate and is strapped for the drive. You check it where it has been placed before we close out.
Businesses and pallets
Gym equipment for a business, or freight on a pallet.
Commercial gym equipment and pallet freight ride the same lift gate, and each is booked as its own kind of job.
Gyms, offices and break rooms
Commercial treadmills, weight machines and break-room appliances are booked as commercial and office moves. Ask about scheduling when you book.
Pallets and commercial deliveries
Palletised freight going to an address with no dock or forklift runs under Motor Freight Permit CC071873, separate from our household goods authority. Details are on freight and pallet delivery.
Gun safe and appliance questions
What people ask before moving a gun safe or appliance.
How much does it cost to move a gun safe?
A move of 55 miles or less, origin to destination, is priced by the hour under Washington Tariff 15-C. The rate depends on how many workers are on the job and how long it takes to load, move and unload. The safe's weight and the stairs at both ends affect both, which is why we ask for the make and model. You get the figure as a free written estimate, and how pricing works explains the rest.
Can you move a gun safe up or down stairs?
It depends on the safe and the staircase, which is why we ask for the make and model, the number of steps, and where the landings and turns fall. We look at the route before quoting. If a safe can't go up or down a particular staircase, you hear that at the estimate, before moving day is booked.
Do I need to empty my gun safe before moving it?
Yes. Take the ammunition, cash, jewellery and important papers out before moving day. Ammunition is on our list of hazardous material we cannot carry, and valuables always travel with you. Mention anything else that is inside when you call, and we will tell you what has to come out first.
Can you move just one appliance?
Yes. A single refrigerator, washer, dryer or freezer can move on its own. It starts the same way as any job: the make and model, a look at the route (by video for a job that size), and a free written estimate.
Where do you move safes and appliances?
Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater and the rest of Thurston County, plus Tacoma and the South Sound, all from our base in Rochester. We also move safes and appliances anywhere else in Washington. A move of 55 miles or less, origin to destination, is priced by the hour; over 55 miles, it is priced by weight and distance.
How soon can you move a safe or appliance?
Usually the same week, sooner in slower months. If it has to happen today, call and ask about same-day moves: one truck can't be in two places, but you'll get a straight answer on the first call, either a time or the earliest real slot.
