Packing services in Olympia, WA, for the whole house or just the kitchen.
Caravan Moving LLC offers moving and packing services in Olympia, Thurston County and the South Sound. The crew brings banker's boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper and tape. TVs go in TV boxes, mirrors and framed art are wrapped, and you decide whether we pack every room or only the kitchen.
What our packing service covers
Plates, glassware and kitchenware are wrapped piece by piece. Statues and other awkward fragile pieces are padded and boxed. Lamps and electronics are padded before they go in the box.
TVs go into TV boxes, and mirrors and framed art are wrapped. A one-bedroom apartment downtown and a family house in South Capitol pack very differently, so the scope is agreed at the walkthrough and written into the estimate.
When we pack and move you, the boxes go onto our own 24-foot truck, loaded by the crew who will unload them. We have no warehouse, so nothing is transferred between trucks.
- Kitchen: plates, glassware and kitchenware wrapped piece by piece
- Living room: TVs in TV boxes, lamps and electronics padded
- Walls: mirrors and framed art wrapped
- Shelves: statues, art and awkward fragile pieces padded and boxed
- Supplies: banker's boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper and tape
- Valuation options explained before anything is sealed
Before packing day
What to decide before we pack.
Each of these comes up at the walkthrough, so the estimate matches what actually gets packed.
Materials
Boxes, bubble wrap, paper and tape come with the crew. The packing and the materials are written into your free estimate before any work starts, and if the job grows past the estimate, a supplemental estimate is written and signed first.
How much we pack
Every room, or only part of the house. Plenty of people pack their own books and clothes and leave us the kitchen and the TV. Tell us which at the walkthrough so the estimate matches.
What travels with you
Jewellery, cash and irreplaceable documents always go with you. The UTC's Consumer Guide to Moving in Washington State lists jewellery, precious metals, currency and valuable papers among the items excluded from mover liability.
Boxes you pack yourself
The same guide says a mover isn't liable for breakage of self-packed items unless you can prove the breakage was due to negligence by the mover. It also excludes internal damage to electronics you packed yourself, which is worth knowing for TVs and computers. Tell us at the walkthrough which boxes you plan to pack.
How a packing job runs
How our packing service works.
You call, the owner answers
Tell us both addresses and the date, and whether you want the whole house packed or only part of it.
We look at what's being packed
Washington's rules require a visual inspection of the goods before a move, in person or by video for smaller jobs, so a number over the phone isn't a legal estimate. Open the cupboards for us, since that is where the packing time goes.
Free written estimate
The packing is written up before any work starts. When we're doing the move as well, the valuation options on the bill of lading are explained and you choose one.
Packing day
The crew brings the materials and packs to the agreed scope. You walk the rooms with us before we close out, and the truck too when we're doing the move.
Packers and movers for local and long-distance moves
A move of 55 miles or less, measured from pickup to delivery rather than from our base in Rochester, is priced by the hour under Washington Tariff 15-C. Moving in Olympia covers how hourly pricing works for moves in and around the city.
Moves over 55 miles inside Washington are priced by weight and distance. Interstate moves run under our own federal authority, U.S. DOT No. 4476646 and MC 1781177, and your packed boxes stay on our truck with our crew the whole way. More on long-distance moves.
If you want the boxes unpacked at the other end as well, with furniture blanket-wrapped and placed, that is a white-glove move.
- Local moves in Olympia and across Thurston County
- Long-distance and interstate moves on our own truck
- White-glove moves: packed, unpacked and placed
- Carpets can be cleaned the same week by King Carpet Cleaning, a separate company that bills separately
Packing questions
What people ask about packing services.
Who supplies the boxes and packing materials?
We do. Banker's boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper and tape come with the packing service, and both the packing and the materials are written into your free estimate before work starts. How pricing works explains hourly and weight-and-distance moves.
Can you pack for my move without doing the move?
Yes. Choose Packing only on the estimate form or say so on the first call, and the packing is written into a free estimate before any work starts. If you want packers and movers on the same job, the boxes we pack go onto our own truck.
Can you pack just the kitchen?
Yes. Full-house packing or just the kitchen is your call. You can also hand us the fragile shelf, the TV and the mirrors, and pack everything else yourself.
Will you pack my jewellery, cash or important papers?
No. Jewellery, cash and irreplaceable documents always travel with you. We do pack fragile valuables like glassware, statues and art, and the valuation options on your bill of lading are explained before the move so you can choose one.
How do you pack a TV or a large mirror?
TVs go in TV boxes, and mirrors and framed art are wrapped. Point out anything oversized at the walkthrough so it's on the written estimate.
